Userpics Meme and Weekly Top Artists

Comment on this post. I will choose seven userpics from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are using in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

jadeblood chose these seven:

Because Erica Durance is the best thing about Crackville (um, Smallville), hands down. Nothing against the Chlarkers, although the Blana people can leave the premises.

A quote from the Animaniacs episode, "Meatballs or Consequences". The Warners are about to play a chess game with Death and they are making fun of the surreal atmosphere:

Yakko: All is strange and vague.
Dot: Are we dead?
Yakko: Or is this Ohio?

Plus, I live in Ohio, now... and it's not really that boring. Not really... I promise... :D

Kind of a private joke between me and mark_clark. When we were writing The Devil You Don't Know, I earned the name "Taskmaster." This is the actual Marvel character with that name. I pull him out whenever I need to whoop some @$$.

A series of panels from the highly mourned Nextwave by Warren Ellis. A parody of superhero team comics that made me howl with laughter every month for a year.

An icon from Star Trek IV by the awesome clioidae! (aka Hadrien Asbury, author of Sunspots) When she learned I shared her love for this movie, she made it for me!

Katchoo and David from Strangers in Paradise. I use it whenever I need to hug someone sadly. If you've read the series, you would know why this is such a bittersweet image. (Don't want to spoil that, because EVERYONE on my f-list should consider it required reading, lol)

Tired Ted and Robin from How I Met Your Mother. Barney is purposely boring them to tears with his overlong one-man play. I have many more Barney icons, but this is a great "exhausted" icon for those times I feel, uh, exhausted. :)

And now, for my last.fm artists of the week:

Is there anyone else on my f-list who shares my love for Danny Kaye? I picked up a bunch of his music last week, and played almost all of it right away! I'd never heard "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" before (except from Zazu in The Lion King), and it was great! Also have fallen in love with "Civilization (Bongo Bongo Bongo)" with the Andrews Sisters.

I also must include Flight of the Conchords in my latest list of musical obsessions. I'm thinking I must add both of these artists (and "novelty songs") to my interests ASAP.

I love Danny ... but I've not heard anything of his that's not been in a movie ... I love Court Jester and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (makes me shudder to think it'll be remade); I've seen a bunch more of his but those two, I think, are my favorite :)

I'd only heard the stuff from the movies, too. So it was great to get a bunch of things I'd never heard.

My two favorites are The Court Jester and The Inspector General, but NO! they cannot remake Walter Mitty... it will NOT be the same.

Ooh pick me. :D

Flight of the Concords - I'm not sure I'm familiar with them. What is their music like?

I know why you use most of these, but I'm still curious about your answers!

And FoTC is a New Zealand folk-parody band, who had an HBO show this last year. Their songs are very odd, catchy and very funny! I'll email you privately for more.

I adore Danny Kaye, A Song is Born is my favorite "I can never find this movie!" movie. My roommate will attest to my going a bit crazy whenever it finally shows up on AMC or TCM. I've only ever heard him in the movies, now I'm curious about his other stuff.

And I'm volunteering for the meme :)

I haven't seen that movie! I will have to keep an eye out now... and Kaye has a lot of great stuff outside the movies to entertain you. :)

I really like all your writing icons... I need more! And how does one "win" NaNoWriMo? I've always wondered what the point of the event was. Maybe you can help!

Are ya sure? ;D

It's too bad that Clana isn't REALLY R.I.P... I didn't know you made an icon of the comic scan I sent! :D And I had to throw in at least one extra dancing icon, just for you...

I remember Danny Kaye. I enjoyed his movies, music and humor.
Oct. 8th, 2007 10:13 am (UTC)
He's just amazing, I think. I love his face, his voice, his spark.

Re: WOO!
All right... here we go...

Queen Babs: This one is kind of complicated. You know how I got the nickname "ECQ"? Well, van_el made this for me to celebrate the fact that I am also a big computer geek / stalker - just like the character of Barbara Gordon in Birds of Prey. So we combined the two things into a comics manip, and since my name is Barbara, too, it just made sense.

Dancing Clark I stole from mithah when I first came to LJ, and I have since developed a love for dancing icons (thanks again for the one you made me!)

Barney lol: I wanted an LOL icon, and this celebrates my love of How I Met Your Mother as well. :)

Bravo Black Adder: Have you seen this British series from the 1980s? It's one of my (and my husband's) favorites. This one comes from the fourth and final season - Hugh Laurie is brilliant in this show.

Crackville: chickadilly started calling Smallville this nickname last year, and after she made the icon, I had to steal it.

Forlorn Clark: When I posted "Then And Now" to LJ, I needed a contemplative, forlorn-looking Clark icon, and this one fit the bill!

Piano Bugs Bunny: I am a huge fan of the WB cartoon shorts. This one comes from "Rhapsody Rabbit", where he plays Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody. Since I teach piano, it's a nice combination of interests.

Do you want me to choose another set for you?
