To the Super-Fam

(most of whom don't hang out here as much anymore, but I'm posting anyway)

Is it time to plan a Man of Steel premiere week meetup for next June? I know some people (me) need about a year's notice to plan trips.

Maybe someone else is already doing this and I missed it?

Anyway, if no one else is planning it already, I guess I volunteer to organize. :) Give me suggestions for a location range, date, time, etc.

All comers, not just the 2007-2008 group, whoever is interested, please comment. Pass it along to those who may have left LJ. I'll try to start PM-ing people who I think might be interested that I don't hear from as well.

Does location matter? I know you fly in to the U.S. a lot...

I'd be down! I'm currently based in NYC these days :D

Awesome! How far would you be willing to travel?

I'd LOVE to but it depends on where it is. I'm in Vancouver, BC. Maybe if we poll possible locations to see where's a good middle ground?

(I am, of course, going to root for Vancouver AKA Smallville!Metropolis. ;))

Oh, definitely we will poll! Especially when I get a feel for how many people, and how willing they are to travel. Vancouver would mean a passport for me (mine expired in 2004), but it's the same for you if it's in the US, I assime!

Hey Barb, thanks for the pm! I'd definitely be interested. I've never been to Canada though, but I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Middle ground sounds like a good idea as well as a poll to see where everyone could meet.

Right now, I'd have to fly, getting too old to drive anywhere these days! *lol*

Are you in San Diego yet?? *iz so jealous*

I'd most likely need to drive, too, though I might be able to swing a 2-3 day drive, as much as I'd prefer 12-hours or less.

I'm not going to SD this year. Can't afford to very often! The next time I go might be 2014, honestly... plus, I'm vocal director of a youth show and opening weekend is during Comic Con. Wish I was, though! :)

I'd consider it, depending on location and timing and so on. Keep me in the loop, and I'll see if I can fit myself in.

Okay, awesome! What range of states would be within your means?

Put me down as a "maybe." I'd be willing to go anywhere in mainland USA, but I won't know if I'll be able to afford it until it gets a little closer. Keep me updated too! Thanks! :D

Awesome, I will!

I'd love to but I'm pretty place-bound to Washington state for work. Seattle or maybe Portland would be okay for me. Maaaaaybe northern California...
Jul. 2nd, 2012 02:11 pm (UTC)
I doubt I'd be able to make it out to the West Coast, unfortunately - we have to save for AGES to make that work. But I'll keep you in the loop anyway, just in case something changes for you. :)

Sounds like an awesome idea, but I'm not going to lie...if it's not withing reasonable driving distance to Atlanta, it's doubtful I'd go. I doubt I can convince hubby to watch the baby while I go out of state for a movie premiere...that and it's quite possible I'll be pregnant again or have a very young baby. In the winter this year, I think we're going to start trying for baby #2.

Totally understandable! My daughter's at an age where I can go for a couple days, but I remember those years well. I'll still keep you in the loop, just in case!

IDK, for me. I will if it's within a day's drive. Longer than that and it'll be difficult. I'm kind of limited by the fact that I have a little one (He'll be one and change in June 2013.) Probably anywhere in the midwest I can make the trip for. I live about and hour and change drive from Metropolis, IL so I'm kind of hoping to make the trek to that. It takes place in early June (usually the first or second weekend depending.) If it's on either coasts I'm unlikely to be able to make it, sadly.

My favorites for locations include Metropolis, IL (of course), Memphis, TN (they have a really good FantasyCon but I don't remember when it is,) Saint Louis (my old stomping grounds,) or Chicago. Chicago might be a good option because it's relatively close to Plano,IL, which is the town that is doubling as Smallville in "Man of Steel."

Admittedly with Metropolis, there's few entertainment options other than the Superman Celebration that happens in early-mid June and the Superman Museum. Also, they don't have a local movie theater so if you're wanting to watch the movie, you'll have to make the drive out to nearby Paducah, KY.

BTW, thank you for letting me know about this. I would like to be kept in the loop if nothing else.

Those IL locations would be fantastic for me (in Ohio), and a few others in this post have agreed - so I'll float it as a possibility to everyone when it comes to polling time.

The premiere is June 14, 2013 - I wonder if the Superman Celebration might try to line up with it? That could be amazing.

NP, and I'll definitely keep you in the loop!

That sounds amazing! I would love to come depending on the location and the state of my finances in a year. I'm located in Michigan, so Metropolis, IL would be reasonable.
Keep me posted on updates, and I'll try to figure out if I can make it!

Wonderful! I'll definitely keep you posted, and thanks for the input about locations. I'm down with IL, we'll have to see how others feel!
Jul. 2nd, 2012 01:58 am (UTC)
Maybe, if we can afford to fly or drive there. *crosses fingers* I'd love to see you all!
Jul. 2nd, 2012 02:21 pm (UTC)
I hope you can! If it ends up being midwest, hopefully that wouldn't be TOO long a drive... I want to see you two again as well!
Jul. 2nd, 2012 02:03 am (UTC)
Thanks for the invite. I too have to plan early.
Jul. 2nd, 2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
Hopefully we can start putting plans in motion this summer, to give everyone enough planning and saving time. The movie premieres June 14, 2013. I'll keep you in the loop!

i think it should be in So Cal. *nods* Yep! ;-)

Seriously, I dunno ... Metropolis, ILL seems a logical answer though. LOL But it's so small that it might be hard to get to.

Well, there's lots to do in So Cal. I AM JUST SAYING! ;-) *Points to icon* Yeah, yeah, different fandom but SEE? PEOPLE WOULD WANNA GO THERE!!!! ;-)

ETA: Yes, I am pesky today - went through Metropolis on the Epic Road Trip and IIRC it's maybe 2 or 3 hours from St. Louis. There's really not much there other than the giant Superman statue and the museum though. I think there was a Dairy Queen... LOL!! But if we did St. Louis maybe we could do a day trip... just a thought.

I would definitely be interested in coming. No idea if it's possible, we'll probably be moving next summer, but if I can, I would definitely like to be there.
Jul. 2nd, 2012 02:25 pm (UTC)
I will definitely keep you in the loop then! Look for more soon. :)
Jul. 2nd, 2012 01:55 pm (UTC)
I'd definitely be up for a meet-up, too, assuming I can afford the trip when it comes up. Middle ground sounds good. :p
Jul. 2nd, 2012 02:26 pm (UTC)
Excellent! Middle ground is easiest for me, too. Fingers crossed we can get something going! I'll keep you in the loop. :)
