The Summer Continues...

Time to update you on happenings!

1) I finished my bigbangbigbang at just over 15K. It has the appropriately cheesy title of "StarTricked" to go with its cheesiness. :) I still have to finish revising it, but I will soon be paired with an artist/fanmixer and that is exciting!

2) Community got passed over for the Emmys (a crime!) but the Thursday marathon was amazing and the fandom is terrific. It looks like the comm may snag Gillian Jacobs for an interview soon, too!

3) SUMMER TV MARATHON STATUS:

Finished since the last update:
**New Doctor Who - I really, really enjoyed Series Five. I really, really like all three members of Team Tardis (Eleven, Amy, Rory), and that's new for me. For example:
  • Nine>Rose
  • Ten=Rose, but I wasn't madly in love
  • Martha>Ten
  • Donna>Ten, but their BFFery elevated Ten GREATLY
  • Eleven is LOVE. Amazing. Amy is perfect. Rory is a teddy bear. AND THEY GET TO GO ON MORE ADVENTURES TOGETHER, THIS IS SO EXCITING. NO CHANGE UP BETWEEN SERIES!

**Spaced - finished - Series 2 was so great. How sad it only lasted 2 series?

**Drop Dead Diva - finished/caught up for Sunday. LOVE IT. This is why it's great:
  • Brooke Elliott, who plays Jane, is amazing at playing a thin, shallow model trapped inside a brilliant plus-sized lawyer. She's bubbly, fiesty, caring.
  • I tear up practically every episode. Sure, it's on Lifetime. That's their brand, right? But even T. was getting sucked in when I was watching.
  • Jane is inspiring. I love how she shines despite the opinions of everyone around her.

In Progress:
**Black Books
  • The First Series is just okay. I had trouble finishing it.
  • But I pressed on to Series 2, and nearly watched all six in one sitting.
  • Just a few more S2, then on to S3.

About to Start:
**The IT Crowd
**(I can't decide which to do next. Help?)

STILL ON THE LIST
Cougar Town
United States of Tara
Iron Man: Armored Adventures
Party Down
Sanctuary
Primeval
Castle
No Heroics
The Mighty Boosh

Current Summer TV:
Leverage: so good this season! They are upping the shippyness and I APPROVE.
Burn Notice: not as good, though I like Jesse. He mixes things up. :)
True Blood: as WTF as ever. Still watching.
The Good Guys: SERIOUSLY, WATCH THIS SHOW. Colin Hanks! Dan Stark's mustache! 80s buddy cop movies, humor turned way up!
Louie: watched the pilot, couldn't get into it

Coming Soon:
Psych: can't wait for it to start up!
Mad Men: my interest level is growing as the premiere approaches
Covert Affairs: Going to try it
Rubicon: Going to try it

This is TRUFAX. Also with the love for Team TARDIS in S5 and (yay!) S6. Can't wait!

I'm really surprised at how many people seem to agree! When Ten was currently airing, it seemed like my entire Who-watching f-list loved Ten. But I think the composite of my f-list has changed quite a bit since then. :D

I loved Ten once upon a time (really, truly did -- preferred him to Nine by a long shot), but over the course of his run I became increasingly cynical and detached.

IMO it's not a bad thing to like a companion as much as you like the Doctor, but surely you shouldn't like the companions more than the Doctor, as I did with Martha and Donna. And you definitely shouldn't find the combination of Doctor and companion so toxic that you feel sorry for everyone who meets them, which is how I felt about Ten/Rose by "Journey's End". And by the time "Last of the Time Lords" rolled around I was so disgusted with Ten's arrogance and self-centeredness couldn't even bring myself to watch any more.

(All of which is not to say anything bad about David Tennant, who is a brilliant actor who did [I think] the best that anyone could do with the script and character moments he was given. I just happen to violently disagree with the direction that the Tenth Doctor's character took over the course of his run.)

S5 gave me back my joy in the Doctor as a madman with a box, and two companions who are flawed but human and lovable. It also convinced me to love River, about whom I was suspending judgment. Sure, there were a couple of eps I was meh on, but I never felt angry or disgusted after watching them. I felt like I got back the show I've been loving since I was eight years old.

So yeah, I am very very happy to know that I am not the only one who feels this way.
