I'm still crying. I'm trying to think of the right words to describe the pure emotion that eminated from this chapter but it is just so complex and undescribable. The fairy tale was such a perfect way to explain things to Jason. Definitely one of my favorite chapters. Your writing somehow can make even the worst days seem better. This story always amazes me. Fabulous chapter.

Aw, Tayler... how sweet of you to say! *sniff*

I really worried over this one, so it's wonderful to hear. :)

That was just...beautiful, Barbara! My eyes filled up with tears...the "fairy-tale" Lois told Jason was touching, and even more the fact that he understood that it was actually his parents' story! But the best part was that all three of them were there for Jason! Wonderful chapter...can't wait for the next!

Sorry for not reading this sooner, but life has been hectic and I wanted to have my full attention on this! ;)

Oh, that's okay! I'm glad you're here now. Never a problem.

Anyway, I've always intended that the three of them share parenting duties as much as possible. I don't think Jason would be able to handle it very easily if Richard were not still very involved in his life.

Thanks again!

Oh!! *Squeee* How positively....unexpected and absolutely brilliant! What an amazing way to help Jason come out of his shock and put things into perspective so that he can better undersand...I found myself enchanted - smiling and teary-eyed through the whole thing. *fans face* It's still so sad and heartbreaking, but also sheds the light of hope that things are going to start looking up and getting better. The road may be long, but it will lead there. It's awe-inspiring how much story you've weaved from the beginning, how many subplots there are. Truly, this has continued longer than I expected - especially after Mitchener's discovery, I thought we were nearly complete - and here we still have plots unraveling and not yet to their conclusion! It makes for happy readers, yes. :) Wonderful, wonderful chapter this time around. I love fairy tales!

I really am amazed at the tearjerking reaction this chapter got! When you are an author, you really can't predict how people will respond. I think because I already knew what was going to happen, my emotions were muted.

Also, I am pleased that you have noticed that some of the other subplots are being tied up as well. I really have enjoyed the juggling involved. Very fun. And little things mentioned here or there are getting a pay off in the next chapter or two. :)

...this chapter left me with tears in my eyes, and I'm not sure why. I think it was the "fairy tale" that set me off. Wow. I had no idea how you were going to handle that all-important Jason scene, but whatever I expected, you definitely surpassed. You walked a fine line, and you walked it with tremendous grace and poise. This is probably my fave "family dynamic" chapter ever--I LOVE that you gave Richard his due. He totally deserves it; I've said it many a time, but I'll say it again: it was your story that forced me to respect Richard and cultivated the love that I currently have for his character.

But OHMYGOSH, CLIFFIE! GAH. How can you be so evil and so good at the same time?!

Job very, very well done.
Jan. 14th, 2007 02:34 am (UTC)
Thanks, Michelle! I really did sweat over this. So many people had done this scene, and well, I might add... I was feeling awfully nervous. There's another scene coming up that I'm worried about for the same reason. *shrugs* I guess it doesn't have to be a masterpiece...

Evil and good are separated by a very fine line in my heart. You gotta truly know both to choose the right path, don't you think? ;)

I finally have time to review (just in case you were worried I wouldn't). This was a really great chapter that dealt with a lot of the issues of the changing relationships.

I think you did a great job with how you told Jason the truth. From skimming people's comments it really seems that people responded to the fairy tale idea. The only thing is I had something similar planned for one of my stories down the line. I promise I didn't copy you (and I think its different enough and who knows when I'll actually get to it)! But you did such a great job in this chapter.

I'm very excited to see what happens at the Fortress of Solitude. What will Jor-el and Lara say when they discover they are grandparents? And I'm still curious to find out what you have planned for Luthor. I know he's out there somewhere!

Hope that you have a chance to update again soon, particularly with the long weekend! Well done!

Oh, my! You had something similar planned? *blush* Sorry! I'm glad you think it's different enough.

I hope I can update. I am in the middle of chatting with sean_montgomery, bistyboo1974, and alphielj all at once on Yahoo! IM, and nothing is getting done at all... But it's fun.

HAHA, just noticed your new avatar about Lana "Reading makes my head all hurty" ROFL!!!

I picked this one up yesterday. :) We must agree on Lana... just have to get you to agree with me on Lois...

Now this was one heck of an amazing chapter! I have to admit I was a bit nervous at how Lois would break the news to Jason, but the way it happenned was really just wonderful. Like really really great!

And the secret is finally out!! Like FINALLY! But then that means that this fic is finishing soon... and I really wish it didn't! But then again, I really want an update reaaaally soon!:D:P

But really, I just hope that we'll see some serious fluff between Lois and Clark before the end of this wonderful fic... I live for fluff! What can I say?

And yay! Father/son bonding time!:D:D I really love the dynamic you created between Jason and Clark... you really picked up on what was in the movie and turned it into something wonderful! And not only in terms of Jason and Clark, but Lois and Clark, Lois and Richard, Perry, Jimmy, the whole lot! I said it before, I'll say it again, you really just amazed me and really impressed me at how near perfect the characterizations are! And the best fics are those that have a firm grasp on who the characters are.

Bravo! I am really anticipating with much, much, much, impatience the next chapter and the (hopefully) lovely moments between Lois and Clark!:D Though I don't think we need to hope much after the fantasies Lois has been having!:D *smirk* (Seriously what woman wouldn't drool over Superman? Especially Brandon Routh Superman?)

Lovely work!

Well, hmm. An update soon? I would like to get a bunch more done tonight, but I'm not sure if it will. I kinda promised my beta I'd have it by tomorrow night. If that's correct, you'll probably see it Tuesday evening.

Serious fluff? Well, as a new reader to this story, you will not have known that I have been promising it to my LJ buds for some time now. Look for it soon - not next chapter - but soon.

The relationships in this fandom are fascinating, aren't they? Quite a lot to play with. I'm so happy you enjoyed it so much. :)

Masking the past as a fairy-tale was a good idea. Perfect for a little boy like Jason. I think he can understand it now a little better. But what is Clark doing? Wants he to fly with his son? Is that a good idea? Or a little bit to much for a little boy?
Poor Richard. You describes him very warm and nice. I wonder if you can "manage" him a prinzess in this story too?

Jan. 16th, 2007 11:14 am (UTC)
Clark does want to fly with Jason, but not alone. He's taking Lois and Jason to the Fortress, to try to answer some of the little boy's questions. I can just imagine how awkward it would be just the two of them, after finding out something like that!

And I would love to give Richard a princess. If I could only figure out how... :)

I adored this chapter and apologize again that this review is so late, B.

Jason's reaction to the news was so real and understandable, I read it with tears in my eyes. What a lot for a little boy to process. Your feelings of shock, especially with the facts presented in DV, don't go away just because your Daddy is Superman. If anything, it's worse when you consider everything.

Another beautiful and realistic moment was the discussion between Richard and Lois about 'how it ends'. With your pairing, I'm just glad that it never came down to ugliness. I don't think they have it in themselves to be vicious. Richard just had the bad luck to get the girl who wasn't entirely over the love of her life. He really is such a good man.

The fairytale broke my heart. It was such a wonderful way of telling the story in a way a child could understand. There's so much I want to say about it, but there really are no words. I'll tell you honestly, I was trying not to cry reading parts of it. Especially since Lois was telling this story, and her every emotion is clear as day in your words.

And the reveal...

Now do you see why it took so long to do this review? I'm utterly in awe of the master. B, I'm only a pale imitation. All hail the ECQ!

Oh, I don't mind the lateness, hon. Especially when I'm late on your reviews, too!

I'm so thrilled at your response to this chapter. *hugs* I wish I had more to say myself! You are one of my biggest cheerleaders -- don't think I don't appreciate that so much!

I loved this chapter. Lois telling Jason the story through a fairy tale, and Clark and Richard hearing it was so sweet but sad.

Richard was an incredible man, and he deserved happiness… with the right woman for him.

I sure hope so! He really does deserve to be happy with his own princess.
Jan. 21st, 2007 06:07 pm (UTC)
More Richard! Yes, we all hope for him to be happy with the 'right' woman someday... ;)

The fairytale part was something that came to me at the last minute. I love those kind of happy flashes!

Finally catching up! Loved this chapter. Lois explaining the situation as a fairy tale was great, and I'm glad that Richard and Clark were both there for it. If there ever was a time for all three of Jason's parents to be there, that was indeed it! And this was actually my favorite moment:

As Lois spoke, Clark quietly moved over to the bedroom door, opening it gently. Richard was there in the threshold, embarrassed to be caught eavesdropping. Richard signed ‘see’ with one hand, and made a swooping gesture: ‘I saw Clark fly in…’ Clark shrugged, embarrassed.

The idea of Richard sitting there eavesdropping was just ... cute! :) And this was a great line, too:

Father and son held each other’s gazes, and for one clear moment, Jason’s parentage was perfectly obvious to every adult in the room.

I just love little moments that show this connection between Jason and Clark, either due to physical resemblance or otherwise *g*

I always wanted Clark and Richard to be there with Lois. And I'm glad you enjoyed that part! Thanks for trying to catch up! :)

But Jason… Lois placed a gentle hand on Jason’s shoulder and knelt to face him. “Sure, Munchkin. We’ll stay here tonight.” Jason didn’t know anything about the break-up, and this was not the time or place to do it. She would not explain what was going on to Perry in Jason’s hearing. “Why don’t you go in and put your pajamas on and I’ll be in soon.” Thankfully, all of the adults seemed to understand her hesitation. “Hey, Jason, want me to help you find something?” Jimmy volunteered, and his natural enthusiasm broke the tension just enough. “You can show me that new game you got.”

Good ol Jimmy. -grins-

Lois was completely surprised, Clark seemed just as astonished. Richard is explaining this… defending us? Why?

Awww. Richard. You awesome thing you.

The three other people turned with surprise to Clark, who had suddenly spoken up. Though Perry didn’t know it, Clark was the only one who really could divulge this information willingly.

LOL Oh man, Drama Drama Drama!

Something like sympathetic understanding passed across his face, and then, to her utter relief, Perry gave her a firm nod.

“Jason?” Lois stretched a hand out toward him. Her little boy looked back at her, then Richard, eyes almost blank, as he seemed to try to comprehend what was going on. Then without answering, he turned and walked up the stairs. A few moments later, they both heard the door to his room click shut.

:: heart breaks::

“A long time ago… before you were born… there was a girl. She thought she could do anything, be anybody. And you know what? She was right. And she didn’t need anyone’s help to do it, either.” That was her, bold as brass Lois Lane. The youngest reporter, let alone a female one, to get a byline on the front page of the Planet on a regular basis.

-Awwww.....-settles in for the tale-

He must have been so anguished by his son’s pain that he ceased his search for Luthor to comfort him.

-glues heart back together and it breaks again-

“Yes… yes, it is. But it wasn’t all completely sad… though neither one of them knew it… the prince had left a precious gift behind.”

Jason sat up, intrigued. “A gift?”

“More than just a gift…” She kissed the top of his head. “A miracle.” Lois’ heart clenched again – as she told this story to Jason, she was almost feeling afresh the worry and wonder of being pregnant with him.

-blows nose-

As Lois spoke, Clark quietly moved over to the bedroom door, opening it gently. Richard was there in the threshold, embarrassed to be caught eavesdropping. Richard signed ‘see’ with one hand, and made a swooping gesture: ‘I saw Clark fly in…’ Clark shrugged, embarrassed. She nodded slightly to give Richard permission to come in – if there was ever a time when all three of Jason’s parents needed him, it was now.

-has no words-

“I have a place I go sometimes when I need to think. It’s not the same as it used to be, but you should know about it anyway.” He held out a hand toward his son. “Would you let me take you there?”

-squeak- That was beautiful, heart breaking and beautiful
