Yuletide Reveal Time!

I wrote seven stories, which are below the cut (with a little commentary if you are interested!) I experimented with style in most of these -- some with good results, others need more work. ;)

  • "Nicole remembers that day three years ago when the world went wild because of her whims, standing soaked in the rain, pleading with her new brother Bastian to fight the Nasty... did she want to go through that again?"
---
My main assignment was this one.  I have to make a confession to alixtii - I was matched with you on Carmen Sandiego.  But I had misunderstood which version of canon you meant and I panicked a little.  Then I saw the NeverEnding Story III request, and decided to write that instead.  Problem? I'd never seen any of the movies! But Netflix saved me, and I was able to catch up. Your request for Nicole and the sibling bond was a challenge, but I really enjoyed it.  I'm glad you did, too.  I hope my f-list will check it out!

  • "He can almost see Gert lounging in the bench seat, one elbow resting on Old Lace's back. She's holding a ratty paperback in her other hand, probably something she's read at least twenty times before. He never got that. He'd rather be working on the Leapfrog any day." Set during Brian K. Vaughn's run.
---
My first pinch hit.  I have written Runaways and Chase before, but always Gen.  So this was a fun and interesting challenge. I tried to combine the requests of intimacy, plus bittersweet memories of Gert in one story.
Strength for Tomorrow by for Belle

Additional Tags:
  • The final battle against the Keeper is at hand, the situation is tense. Kahlan tries to help Richard find a little strength. Spoilers for Season 2, through 2.06, "Fury." Speculation for later events.
---
This was a pinch hit, and the requester wanted a "creative solution to Richard and Kahlan's consummation problem." It didn't get much love, though (just one comment), so if you watch Seeker and feel inclined... ;)
 Screenwriting Fundamentals by for gladdecease

  • Abed decides to use his uncanny powers of observation for the good of two of his friends.
---
This one was my favorite of all seven but it didn't get a single comment for two days! I thought I had made a serious miscalculation in my characterization of Troy (and Annie). I was going for "unreliable narrator" in Abed on this one, so Troy seemed more indecisive and dim, and Annie more needy than I think they are really portrayed on the show. I think I'll have to write another story with these three and use my own style next time.
Vs. the Yogurt Shop by for coffeebased, calliope

Additional Tags:
  • Kim Pine and Ramona Flowers have a girl's day out: defeating ninjas, eating frozen yogurt and not talking about Scott Pilgrim.
---
I wasn't sure how this one would go!  I used sound effects and the video game elements from the graphic novel, and I was pretty pleased with the result. Plus I fell a little more in love with the girls of the Scott Pilgrim universe. <3
 Friendly Rivalry by for Marks

Additional Tags:
  • "Fine!" Her nostrils flare. "First person to be stumped by the other has to buy ice cream!"
---
Since I did so much experimenting with style in my regular Yuletide stories, I decided to use my own style for the Madness treats. Which made me realize I should have done that all along, because these two did pretty well in comparison. I love Annie, Abed and Troy together.  I want to see this on the show.
I'll Be Home for Christmas by for Quettaser
Archive Warnings:
Additional Tags:
  • Artie's mother tries to make the Christmas after the accident a little more special.
---
I wanted so much to write something for Glee, and when I saw this prompt (part of which was to explain how Artie became a great guitarist), I had to write it.  I love how sweet and unassuming Artie is, and I tried to show that in the story.

LOL! That's the only LotS story I read from the list you linked to! :D And I totally would have left you a comment, too, had the site not been super-slow! ;) I enjoyed it!

I don't follow any of those fandoms so I'm unsurprised that I didn't read any of your works in the last week but that's a cool round-up of stories you've got there!

Hey, that's okay! I wrote in a lot of unusual fandoms this time (except Community, which you don't watch). :)

I only wish I'd had more time to write some more for Madness. There were three other prompts that really caught my eye but I didn't have the time. Now there's NYR options, but I might save up my writing time for the latest 12days prompt I nabbed, instead!

Oh no! I should have guessed that you wrote that awesome Runaways story, because I really liked it!

I kept waiting for you to guess! Ah, well, it's okay. :) I did enjoy writing them anyway. :D

c&p'd from my Dear Yuletide writers post so that it's my fresh reaction from when I first read Vs. the Yogurt Shop:

HOLY CRAP. How did you know that this fic is what I meant when I wrote this prompt? You are SCARY, and really good at making me envision BLO'M-esque panels as I read your fic.

I love the little Ramona/Kim hints! They are my femslash OTP! :D :D :D SO MUCH GLEE. The little references to side-characters! Picking on SCOTT'S LAMEASS SELF :D!

Thank you for picking my prompt and thank you for writing the best fic for it!

I'm actually extra excited that you were the one that wrote that treat for me because I LOVE your Sheldon/Penny fanfiction. I've never really commented before because, well, I'm more of a lurker than anything else.

But I really, really appreciated your treat!

Wow, that's really awesome! :D I read through Vol. 5 again before writing and then spent a lot of time on the pages where they're together a lot. :) So I guess that paid off! ♥

And oh? That makes me all excited! I have one more chapter on the multi-chapter S/P I'm writing, so I hope you'll delurk for it. ♥

For what it's worth, I did read through a good part of the Community fic, when I figured that's the one that was yours - but not knowing the show or the characters made it a little harder for me to "get it" and I didn't read the entire way through... which by no means should be taken as a commentary on the quality of the fic - it was really good, actually - only my not being able to follow and appreciate it very well. :(

Oh, I totally understand. It had a really high hit count to comment ratio, though, which made me worry that I'd botched it big time. :D

I'm hoping you'll read the Legend of the Seeker one... it wasn't for you, but I know you requested Richard/Kahlan... :D

I'll definitely read it! :) I don't think I read a single one in that fandom - but I don't remember why I skipped over it, only that I saw it and skipped... I think I was probably more in the mood for funny than "and they llived happily ever after" stuff, given my current mostly-depressed state...

Well, does it help or hurt that this one is 1 part sweet, 1 part smut and 1 part angst?

;) It made it just right -- this would really have fit my own request perfectly, so I'll just pretend it was for me. *lol*

Assuming you confused Where in the World with Where on Earth, you're not the first person I've known to make that mistake. I feel blessed that you persevered in order to still go on and write such a great fic. And I can take credit for introducing you to a great movie, a decent movie, and--ahem--a movie which I love deeply but will refrain from making claims as to its objective quality.

Yes, that was me all right. *blush* Luckily, you had NES as a gimme fandom. Whew. And it's a movie I'd meant to watch a dozen times, since I was actually the target demo when it came out! :D

Thanks for a fun prompt to write. :)
