Five Questions Meme

Leave me a comment with "SRS BZNS - WHERE'S MY POPSICLE MARGARITA" in the subject line.

I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions

chickadilly gave me:

1.) What was the first thing you ever fangirled?
2.) You've traveled and lived in some very interesting places. Out of everything you've seen and done what would you say is your favorite travel memory?
3.) Do you have a philosophy of life?
4.) How did you get into music teaching? Have you always been a musician?
5.) How much fun are we going to have at Comic Con? :D :D :D

1.) What was the first thing you ever fangirled?
Okay, so this was a LOT harder to answer than I expected. I was a fan of many things as a child growing up, but I never really got obsessive until college. Probably the first thing was music. I determined one year that I would get almost every Christian rock album (and a ton of the pop and inspirational) released that year. And I did pretty well - which is how I was introduced to some of my favorite bands to this day. But this was pre-internet, and so I did it alone, with only a friend here or there to share squee with.

After I got a job in 1994, I started to obsess about Looney Tunes cartoons - collecting every single one of the shorts from 1930-1964. I got very close - probably 97%. And the way I completed my collection was through the internet and newsgroups. alt.animation.warnerbros, I believe. This was my first interaction with other fans who really loved the same thing to the same degree. We discussed Animaniacs (new at the time) and the shows of the studio at the time to death. In fact, the icon I'm using comes from an episode (bad quality, but still fun) that made us LAUGH LIKE CRAZY, since it was totally directed right at us (I think they even quoted conversations, IIRC)

I also participated some in the Lois and Clark listserv and the Wheel of Time website, but in some ways I didn't know I was in FANDOM until I posted my first Spider-Man story in 2005.

2.) You've traveled and lived in some very interesting places. Out of everything you've seen and done what would you say is your favorite travel memory?
Whoo, also hard! I think it was probably driving 2.5 hours to Tokyo and sightseeing by car. Honestly, most tourists (and most Japanese people) see the city via subway and train. But there was nothing like being the lone gaijin (foreigners) putzing about the city in our tiny hatchback. You experience the city as a real place -- not as a place of wonder and incomprehensibility -- and I'll never trade that.

3.) Do you have a philosophy of life?
Ack, you ask hard questions, girl! I guess I try to treat others right, to love as much as I can, and enjoy life. I definitely have a long way to go in all those areas. I'm not a confrontational person at all, so when someone disagrees with something I do, I tend to explain why I did something as calmly as I can and drop it. But it always makes me feel like a) I should have said nothing or b) I didn't do enough. Sometimes both. And if someone keeps pushing, then I explode in a white-hot volcano of rage (HULK SMASH!). Not good at all. You probably think that was a tangent, but I often feel like this aspect of my personality stops me from being able to fully live out the philosophy of life I have.

4.) How did you get into music teaching? Have you always been a musician?
Yes. I've been singing, performing, playing the piano and writing music since I was little. In junior high, I thought maybe I wanted to be a computer programmer and just do music on the side, but in high school I had a band director who was a new teacher, and he had such a hard time that I decided I could do better! LOL, high school hubris. But, hey, I majored in music education in college, and I've never regretted it.

5.) How much fun are we going to have at Comic Con? :D :D :D
THE EASIEST ONE TO ANSWER! A HUGE AMOUNT OF FUN! And you can even ditch me while I wait in line for and attend the Big Bang Theory panel. Or risk insane amounts of babble as I stare at Jim Parsons and his hands. :D

Anyone not done this that wants to play?
