I love canon! Well, except this...

*lifts head from NaNo fugue state to comment on Smallville 8.09*

Or maybe, you're doing it right, but we REALLY wish you hadn't...

LOL. Seriously.

I know, right?

I guess I've been having such a geekgasm over their use of canon all season that I forgot that there's plenty of sucky canon, too. *sigh*

Wasn't the Clark/Jor-El stuff awesome?? It was pretty amazing. HE CALLED HIM FATHER!!!!!!!!!!

As for the other, well, yeahhhh. Man, my heart is broken.

That was totally wonderful. I mean, finally! But they could have stopped there, couldn't they? :(

Except for that part, I was pretty pleased with the episode overall.
I'm still sad, though.

Until that happened, I was definitely in squee mode. I loved the effects and the use of the Doom symbol... but *sigh*

Yeah, I'm pretty much torn in two with this retcon, as Mark called it.

Maybe she'll remember later...! *wishful thinking*!!
Nov. 15th, 2008 02:19 am (UTC)
Well, maybe the Legion episode will spark those memories... I can hope!

Brainiac darkening her eyes and seeping out of her ear was SO X-Files... omg!

And gosh darn it, did they really *have* to do a spin on the whole "kiss that makes you forget Superman" thing? It was a bad idea in the second movie, it's still a bad idea 28 years later!

Not to mention, it's stupid -- this is Chloe, she probably has some sort of Kryptonian something-or-other hidden someplace at home, or at the Isis Foundation....come on!! She keeps files on meteor freaks, she's bound to have a few notes about Clark somewhere in there.

And then she'll remember.

And then she'll be pissed off like he's never seen her pissed off before.

Oh, Clark, Clark... why did you have to be such an idiot. Again. Haven't the other 7 seasons taught you *anything*?

Nov. 15th, 2008 03:10 am (UTC)
I know, why why why!? It seems totally unnecessary... They've been using such awesome canon this year. They could have skipped this bit. :(

At least they didn't kill her...

At its best, Smallville sucks -- and yet I watch

M=masochist much?
Nov. 15th, 2008 03:11 am (UTC)
I know, thank God. I've really loved Season 8 so far, I mean, A LOT. But even this season can make me sad... :(
Nov. 15th, 2008 03:18 am (UTC)

It's true! It's all true!

But at least they didn't amnesia-kiss Lois.
Nov. 15th, 2008 03:21 am (UTC)
I'll repeat what I said to northern_star:

If it were AlMiles, I would say... 'Yet.'

But with PS3, I have hope...

Clark on good terms with Jor-El, one less person knowing his secret (super douchery on that part, btw) and an almost Lois kiss? Methinks he'll be superman very very soon.

and then no more smallville, which makes me sad :(
Nov. 15th, 2008 04:51 am (UTC)
Oh, the Supermanliness AND the Superdickery were in full force. Methinks you are right.
Nov. 15th, 2008 03:59 am (UTC)
Being the Jor-El "hater" that I tend to be, I got a huge chill when Clark called him father. BIG chill. Like WHOA.

And these pics crack me up! You had better do some for next week when the almost kiss happens with Lois and then the angst comes out to play with Lana. Talk about right and wrong...
Nov. 15th, 2008 04:53 am (UTC)
Well, I always keep my eyes and ears open for macros. They are fun to do. So maybe I will be inspired! ♥
Nov. 15th, 2008 05:01 am (UTC)
Ugh, Abyss really pissed me off, and here's why: It seems like PS3 are just using the first half of this season to undo every decision of AlMiles' that they didn't like. Meteor freaks are crazy? No, they just have to be rehabilitated. The Fortress is destroyed? It's magically rebuilt without repercussions. Jor-El is a meanie? Now he totally forgives Clark and Clark calls him "Father." Neither Clark and Lois are journalists? Now they're both hard-hitting DP reporters. Chloe is a better journalist than both of them? She doesn't feel like doing it all the sudden. Chloe knows Clark's secret? Not anymore. It's nice that they have their own ideas, but they can't implement them just for the sake of convenience, because there has been some serious light-switching this season.

Ha ha, sorry, I just needed to get that out.
Nov. 15th, 2008 11:01 am (UTC)
Hey, I understand. *hugs*

I, on the other hand, have spent the last four seasons complaining about the direction AlMiles was taking the show, especially since I felt they were going much more AU from Superman canon than I liked. I could never fully accept the "Elseworlds" feel of the show (I've never been able to finish even one of the comics versions). So far, PS3's handling of the characters has made me cheer. But I suppose that with the canon additions I liked, I have to accept the ones I don't.

It makes you wonder if A.I. Jor-El has ever rethought sending Clark away... ;)
Nov. 15th, 2008 10:56 am (UTC)
I totally agree with ya, sweetie. There was some great stuff in that episode. Probably the part that blew me away was when Clark called Jor-El, "Father". That was a HUGE leap into accepting his destiny.

Of course there was the dreaded retcon. It's bad enough we have to put up with that in comics but here... it sucks. I'll miss Chloe knowing about Clark but I've heard that Brainiac isn't done with her yet so there may be a chance for her to get those memories back or she finds out all over again. He needs someone outside the 'hero' community to know his secret.
Nov. 15th, 2008 11:07 am (UTC)
I really got chills when he was actually talking to his father the way I've seen in the comics and movies. Just great!

But yeah, I hope it's temporary. I loved Chloe as the secret-keeper. Just like always, Clark is taking one aspect of his responsibility and twisting it a bit too far.

I shouldn't be watching the images because i haven't seen the latest episode yet, but i'm liking the use of canon they're doing this season, although that last pic left me wondering about what's going to happen...
Nov. 15th, 2008 02:23 pm (UTC)
Well... just don't read the comments, okay? It's just one of the things fans have always complained about in one of the previous versions of Superman, being used here. :(

I was so mad about what they did to Chloe.

I can't imagine that it will last, though. The past three years or whatever it's been of Chloe's life are essentially gone, not to mention that she's gotta have some record of the past lying around. She's Chloe.
Nov. 15th, 2008 09:48 pm (UTC)
I hope it won't last! I hope that he realizes what a stupid mistake it was! Movieverse Clark never got a chance to admit that, so maybe we'll get it in this universe. :(
