After I saw the preview of the Clois scene in Siren, seacrystal mentioned that people on the boards and elsewhere have complained about Lois' mischaracterization. I'm not sure yet where I stand. So f-list, I ask you, what did you think?

Poll #1134981 Lois in Siren: In Character or Not?

Lois' (2nd) break up with Ollie -- was that in character?

Yes, the reasons she gave Clark made it believeable for me. She'll grow out of that before she and Clark get together.
No! Yet another way TPTB screw with canon!
Hey, it's Crackville, what did you expect?

There might be another explanation?

I'll tell you all about it in a comment.
There was another OTP other than Black Canary/Green Arrow onscreen? Oops, missed it.

It would make sense if you wanted to connect it to her actions in SII, but I don't think she should come to that realization until it happens with CLARK, not Ollie. It happens twice, according to the Crack!Verse? No thanks. If Clois is the ultimate OTP here (and we know that they are), the meaning behind their breakup in SII is much more significant if something similar didn't happen earlier.

But yes - enough with the Clana. Can we rip their hearts in two, already? *facepalm*
Feb. 8th, 2008 02:29 am (UTC)
Heck, I don't even agree with her breakdown in SII, but if that is what they were dropping an anvil on, :P

It makes more sense with Ollie in some ways... but I'm going to have to think a while about it.

But Clois hug, FTW!

And seriously. Where is that metal Mr. Pointy when you need it?
Feb. 8th, 2008 02:29 am (UTC)
I thought the writers overdid it a bit, but I also thought it was long overdue. Lois and Ollie needed closure. I enjoyed Clark and Lois' scene together. She feels that way now, but we know she will change her mind in the future. That's just my wishful thinking!:D

The Clana will continue to the very end. The writers are insane if they think the viewers want this. Unbelievable! *argh*
Feb. 8th, 2008 02:32 am (UTC)
I'll be wishful with you...

Seriously. I can't think there are ANY Clana fans left out there! Everyone I've ever interacted with in the last two years is for Clois or Chlark!

I love tickies!

The first question was difficult. I wanted to pick all 3.

I think the reasons she gave Clark are believeable, but I don't think she should have to go through all this crap twice, which leads me to yelling at TPTB for screwing with crap ONCE AGAIN which leads me to the third choice. What else do you expect from them?

Feb. 8th, 2008 02:45 am (UTC)
I thought about making that a ticky box, too, but decided I'd rather hear each person's top choice.

But yeah. Having Lollie at all was screwy, no matter how much I enjoyed it.

Have you noticed how much BETTER eps are when Justin is making them all shiny'n'stuff? :D

I haven't seen the ep. yet, obviously. Do I even want to watch???
Feb. 8th, 2008 02:42 am (UTC)
Really, the ep is mostly awesome. I was really happy with the Black Canary's portrayal. Something they got right, *shock*

And I'm not in total - WTF??!? mode about this. Watch. There's some OTP goodness in there.

Yeah, 7.11 - aired tonight. When do you guys get the episodes?

Gods, I want Clana dead. X_X Grrr! But at least we got some forward movement on that front, even though it put Clark in a bit of a bad light (though, what more can we expect from this version of the character?).

This version of Canary was just... so wrong. I cringed *a lot* through this ep. O_o
Feb. 8th, 2008 02:51 am (UTC)
Really? I liked what they did with her. Her basic personality was intact, even though they put her on the wrong side at first. Eh. S'okay, Crackville is good for splitting fan opinion. :D

Yes, SOME forward movement. BUTLORDGODALMIGHTY, please let it end this season.

I think it's definitely and perfectly in character, I've never even thought they'd go this route, but they handled it so beautifully.

Those are very real issues, and it actually shows Lois' strength as a character because she has the courage to admit she just isn't ready for that kind of commitment yet. And Oliver himself had never gave me the impression that he was truly as invested as Lois herself in their relationship anyway.
Feb. 8th, 2008 12:16 pm (UTC)
I guess I was hoping they'd go through the issues with Clark, but in some ways it does make sense (ohnoes! did I say that about Crackville?!) to have her work through it in a previous relationship.
Feb. 8th, 2008 03:37 am (UTC)
Well, my fanwank for Lois explaining her break-up is that she really does feel insecure on the issue of not measuring up to a super-achieving guy (as well as the whole "I'm never going to come first in a relationship" vibe, poor kid). However, by the time she comes to have a relationship with Clark, she will be "Lois Lane, Star Reporter" and have a sense of self-identity.

Right now, she's very much just a junior staffer who wants to go places but isn't that far from her muffin-peddling days. So while Clark is off learning about his destiny in the Fortress, Lois will be establishing herself as a world-class reporter. Having that sense of self and accomplishment and destiny? Should help a lot.

May I just say that I enjoyed the shout out to L&C in the Rocky Road icecream and the shout out to the Superman movies with the comment that Lois would change when the earth cracked and went backwards in its orbit (or words to that effect when Clark and Ollie were talking after the heart-to-heart).
Feb. 8th, 2008 12:19 pm (UTC)
Yes, I think that would be a good way to solve the issue. Lois needs to grow into her role as super-reporter as much as Clark needs to. Well put.

Yes, the anvils/references were falling hard and fast tonight, weren't they? I'm a sucker for that, too. ♥

Quick thoughts (longer on my LJ):

Loved the Canary and am enjoying Canary/Arrow. :)

The Clark/Lois scene was good.

The three-way battle at the mansion was interesting, as was Clark trying to decide who to save and looking at Lex first. ;)

Feb. 8th, 2008 12:22 pm (UTC)
Oo, thanks for dropping by!

I was actually wondering what you thought of Canary... I'm glad it was positive, since I really liked her. I'll go over later and check out your comments!

That WAS a great scene there, with the 'decision.' I'd forgotten about that in my Clois-haze. :D
Feb. 8th, 2008 04:10 am (UTC)
Augh, I haven't gotten the chance to watch the epi yet ... I couldn't get out of work in time. :( STOP COMING BETWEEN ME AND MY BAD TV SHOWS, WORK! *fanrage*

Ahem *coughs* ... anyway, I was really looking forward to this ep because of Black Canary's appearance, and this poll (and the comments) have got me seriously intrigued about many other things now. I wonder if someone has already uploaded the darn ep to the internet ... *wanders off to look*
Feb. 8th, 2008 12:23 pm (UTC)
I hope you can find the ep and come back to comment. Yes, I didn't expect there to be so many discussion points this episode, but these DC canon/myth-intensive eps are always good for that!
Feb. 8th, 2008 04:48 am (UTC)
I think that a lot of it is that she's very young here. This is her first exposure to this kind of life. And I do agree that she'll grow out of it when she falls for Clark later. She'll love Clark more than she ever did Ollie and I think Clark will know, thanks to this confession, that he'll have to be a lot more careful if he truly loves her than Ollie did.

Honestly, I think she always goes through a period of time where she thinks she can't do it, that she and the Mission can't co-exist. Inevitably, they do.
Feb. 8th, 2008 12:24 pm (UTC)

Lord, let's hope so.

I think you're right, Lois does need to go through this period of self-examination. I just never expected it to happen with Ollie. :)
Feb. 8th, 2008 04:59 am (UTC)

I was saying the whole time how IC I thought she was because it's SO parallel to everything and I just -- I just felt -- it was so utterly perfect because she's growing INTO the Lois that we need to see.

(And as I'm seeing it right now, that Clois moment at the end made me squeal.)

And some of the lines were great and SV was awesome tonight and I HATE THE CLANA GUH but LOIS oh I missed her and Ollie and *SIGHS*
Feb. 8th, 2008 12:26 pm (UTC)
An emotional ep, wasn't it? I think this one is my favorite S7 so far, but that wouldn't be difficult, considering how the season has been...
Feb. 8th, 2008 05:35 am (UTC)
Hah! Ticky! *waves to B*

Seriously, I think the only real WTF? moment tonight was the preview for next week. That was... weird.

The festering wound of issues between Lois and Ollie got lanced. It needed to happen.

We got Green Arrow/Black Canary yumminess. (and OMG, she rocked my socks!)

And a Clois scene that was utter perfection in how it foreshadows what's to come for those two... We'll be able to feast on that until next season... whenever we get it.

Too bad Lana wasn't anywhere near the brawl at Lex's mansion... oh, if only one of the flying deadly projectiles would've hit Lana and killed her DEAD!
Feb. 8th, 2008 12:27 pm (UTC)
Don'tcha just love the tickies? :D

I missed the preview, since I was creating this poll! Heh.

You know that if Lana were actually at the mansion, Clark would have saved HER. Canary, Lex and Ollie be damned. :P
Feb. 9th, 2008 07:21 pm (UTC)
I think Lois might be worried about the dual identity thing now but she'll get over it, in time for when she meets Clark. He's the right guy and the right time, for her...so then things will work out nicely.
She and Ollie are lovely together but I see Dinah more as an equal for Ollie.

Clark is a very different kind of guy. He's going to be this mega super hero but he'll still be that lovable farm boy and I think that might be a huge factor. Ollie's ideal woman might be the kind that challenges him, tells him off...Ollie/Dinah sparkage was brilliant.

As for the 2nd poll I can only think of one thing: Die Lana Die. The sheer amount of Clanaville this season is driving me nuts, lol! :p

That is the BC/GA relationship in a nut shell. :D

My brother recently asked me, "Why do you still watch that show?", knowing that I screech "OMG JUST DIE LANA!!" at the TV at least four times an episode.

I told him, "Because one of these days, they're gonna have an episode where everyone's in character and the OTPs are right, and I will be there to see it." LOL

This one came close. Still waiting, tho.
Feb. 10th, 2008 01:23 pm (UTC)
LOL, I think that may be the secret reason I am still watching! :D
