“So, Mr. Monk, do you think she did it?” Randy asked in a low voice as the four of them -- Monk, Natalie, Disher and Stottlemeyer -- walked up the drive to the Nichols’ house. He was far too cheerful -- especially after the night he’d had. But something about getting close to a solution on a case always made the junior detective giddy. )

Captain Stottlemeyer was spending another evening reading a report, this time the coroner’s report for Bill Nichols. He scanned the page, noting the place and time of death. Nichols definitely had a cold; his nasal passages had been blocked and his lungs filled with fluid, but the coroner had determined his illness was not the cause of death. And no head trauma either, which might have explained the way he was found on the floor. )

Monk stared warily at the object of his disdain -- an innocuous-looking sachet. It spun slowly as it hung from the rear-view mirror, unfortunately emitting a strong almond scent. )

Author's Note This was my [info]yuletide story -- and my first ever real foray into the Monk fandom. I wrote it for [info]jane_elliot, who asked for a Stottlemeyer/Disher story -- with PLOT! I'd never thought of focusing on those two (though I did place the characters into my list of characters I would write for!), so I completely blame any awesomeness on her idea. ♥ A big, special thank you to everyone who commented and recommended this story in the community!

Thank you to [info]alphielj, [info]alamo_girl80, [info]foxtwin, [info]oldromantic and [info]van_el for the beta help -- I was so nervous about this!

Although winter in San Francisco was rarely very cold, nightfall still came as early here as anywhere else. Most of the shop windows on Bryant Street were dark, the businesses closed for the evening. One light, however, illuminated the street outside with intermittent flickers of sparkling light. )

Pushing Daisies rec (edited to add all Yuletide 2007 recs so far)
Okay, so I've been reading, reading, reading steadily for 6 (is it 6? I'm losing track) days in the [info]yuletide archive, and I came across one I had to rec to my fellow PD fans on the f-list:

Twice Upon a Time: A fourth-wall breaking tale in which the Narrator steps into his own story, with unusual results.

At that very moment (in the sense that the infinite encompassed all moments), the narrator was making himself a cup of tea.

I keep meaning to do a comprehensive recs post, but I am still only halfway through the fandoms I want to read!

ETA: Okay, so I took a page from several people's books, and made del.icio.us account to put the recs in. This is by no means complete, but it's a start. Good reading, kids!

Recs include: addams_family, adventures_of_pete_and_pete, arrested_development, batman_begins, batman_tas, batman_beyond, blackadder, birds_of_prey, bones, coupling_uk, flight_of_the_conchords, how_i_met_your_mother, mary_poppins, moonlight, northern_exposure, pretty_in_pink, princess_bride, pushing_daisies, runaways, scrubs, snow_crash, spider-man, twilight, wheel_of_time, wonderfalls

To my [info]yuletide Santa (And [info]seasonalmarvels writer/artist):
Hi!

I'm really excited to be part of the fun this year! I hope that you found something in my request list that grabs you! And thank you in advance for the time you're putting into this event.

Here are a few things you should know about me and my fic tastes:

I LIKE:
** All different genres - drama, romance, comedy, suspense, action... so don't worry about the tone of the piece.
** Stories that end with a bang - a loose end, a punch line, a "wow, never thought of that" line...
** Either gen or het
** Canon! I prefer the characters be as close to their canon counterparts as you are able to manage.

I DON'T MIND:
** Sexual scenes, but keep them het, and no kink or threesomes, please.

I DON'T LIKE:
** Deathfic, depressing stories (although unrequited love is okay), BDSM, torture fic

If you want to get a feel for my writing style, visit my archive, or look at the short pieces on my main LJ.
