TBBT, of course. Mike and Eldest are watching Arrow but I'm not sold. I'm trying to catch up on Elementary because I love Lucy Liu but I think I might binge-view over the holidays.

I've thought about catching back up on Castle but haven't watched anything since 3/4 of the way through last season. I'm thoroughly spoiled for the big plot twist and might sit down to watch Monday's episode just because.

I didn't expect to fall in love with Arrow like I have! I think it's the very low expectations combined with love for the portrayals of Oliver, Laurel and John. And each episode makes me want more. :)

Castle is really delightful this season. The romance is sweet and played just enough to make me smile. You should watch last week's ep, which was set at a Sci-Fi convention. Very cute!

Bob's Burgers and Dexter (perfect Sunday nights. Dexter is SO GOOD this season), Castle, and Parks. I need to start Go On.

Go On is like comfort food, tasty and satisfying. Nothing to make me rave about, but also time well-spent. Sort of a Community-lite, but yet not. Try it!

Aw, we didn't pick up the same new shows! Well, not all of them. I'm really enjoying Nashville, and Last Resort is okay-ish but I like the concept enough to keep watching. Otherwise, I'm watching Ben & Kate (I love it!), The Mindy Project (adore it too, I'm sad you dropped it! But it is very unequal so I get it), HIMYM even if it's definitely not their best season, Don't Trust the B-- in Apt 23, P&R, Elementary, TBBT, Revenge, Parenthood, and Fringe. (Is there any specific reason that you're not watching Parenthood? It's probably my favorite show right now!) Wow, that's a lot of stuff. I'm not up to date on anything though, I just record everything and watch two episodes a night once baby is asleep. A bit unorthodox but it works! ;) TV! :D

Aw, too bad! I have Last Resort in the back of my mind. Maybe I'll give it a summer marathon, or a winter or mid-spring hiatus try. I have Hulu Plus, so I should be able to watch the whole season.

Nashville scares me because I'm REALLY not a fan of country music, and dramas usually need a secret-identity component to grab me. Sell me on it and I might try it?

There is no specific Parenthood reason - I've never watched even one episode. I see that Netflix has the first three seasons on Instant, and Hulu would have S4... but again, no secret identity component makes it iffy. Give me reasons for this one, too!

Haha, that is such a weirdly specific thing to like in your TV shows! But at the same time there are quite a bit of those, I guess, so if it works for you, why not! I just remembered you didn't like Friday Night Lights, so maybe Parenthood is not for you. It's very low-key, just everyday family drama/funtimes, it has lots of great, believable relationships, and I love all the characters. But no secret identities at all! Haha! And if you do try it, keep it mind that it gets better as it goes along. I've always liked it but my husband only came on board in the middle of S2.

I've only watched three Nashville episodes and it wasn't perfect but I do like it! I kind of hate country too, but I love Taylor Swift, so I guess I don't hate it that much. The music in the show is very good though, even if it's not really my style, and it's not overwhelming like, say, Glee. Connie Britton is fantastic. Honestly I couldn't really sell you on it, just, I enjoy it! ;)

I know, isn't it? I can't even explain it, but it's my ONE bulletproof narrative kink. I mean, LOOK:

Once Upon a Time
Dexter
Revenge
Homeland
Misfits
Covert Affairs
Arrow
The Vampire Diaries
Beauty and the Beast
Grimm
Doctor Who
Merlin

EVERY one of these has it. And then there's Breaking Bad and Mad Men plus probably five others on hiatus right now...

Elementary, Castle, The Walking Dead and Downton Abbey don't really, so I guess I do watch some things without it.

I do like family stories. I probably would like Parenthood if I gave it a try!

Can't sell you on "Nashville" because I think it's not that great yet.

"Parenthood" is all kinds of fun if you're in the market for a very well acted/directed ensemble show that is not about anything in specifc. It's just the story of a family... sometimes it's schmaltzy and melo-dramatic, but - for the most part - it just reminds you of the little things that families go through. If you're looking for serialized drama along the veins old fashioned prime-time family dramas then it's a show to watch. If not, then you won't like it.

Sundays are the day that I have all the television! I'm sad now that Downton Abbey is over until Christmas :( But Misfits is okay this season. The new people are kind of funny but they aren't any Simon/Alisha/Kelly. They're depending a lot on Rudy, who is great, but I don't know if they entire show can float on him with Curtis' side eyes lol
htbthomas
Nov. 11th, 2012 02:57 am (UTC)
I'm so TIRED on Monday mornings after all that TV! :D

It's so hard to think about watching Misfits with only Curtis left! I like Rudy, I do, but so many new faces... it's a lot like Being Human (UK) was. I just couldn't, even though I really tried.

I will give it a go, though, probably during one of the hiatus weeks.

I don't know when Sunday had the best television, but now it does XD

Yeah, I couldn't really with the new people on Being Human either. I watched last season, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to watch the next one :/ UK television is so odd how it gets rid of its original cast. I don't really see that in American TV so much.

BBT, Downton Abbey, Once Upon A Time and ... *thinks* ... Um ... I don't watch much else. LMAO. I'm tv lazy! ;-)

Though I will be watching Community when it comes back.

I tried to watch Arrow and gave up fairly quick. I think the actor just lacked Justin Hartley's charm? IDK, it seems too serious for me. LOL
htbthomas
Nov. 11th, 2012 03:28 am (UTC)
Oh, he's definitely not Justin! But maybe that's in his favor. They're not trying to imitate the Smallville version at all. He does have some humorous moments in later episodes, but yeah, it's WAY more serious in general than Smallville ever was.
sanalayla
Nov. 16th, 2012 09:11 pm (UTC)
But I don't feel like it's serious in a good or better way. It just feels like - most of the time - list it's a row of SV's darkest episodes. I can't say that I'm necessarily seeing an uptick in quality (from SV) and I can't say that I'm seeing actors that grab me like SV's actors did.

I want to love the show, but am getting a little bored. I hope they amp it up. Since it's a Justice League show, I will watch until the bitter end, but I'm not sure I'm going to love it while I'm doing it!

It sorta blows my mind, too! I can't seem to drop any more than I already have... I think it helps that my daughter is not in soccer this year, much less time away from home. :D

Holy shit, that is a lot of TV. I don't know how you manage that, either.

I've dropped all my sitcoms except the ones that aren't airing right now (Community and Cougar Town). I started off thinking I'd want to watch The Mindy Project even if it didn't step up all season, but something changed there so I've given up on that too. Today I decided to drop The Good Wife and The Vampire Diaries, because I'm just not excited about either anymore, and when TVD isn't even giving me Elena feelings, it's time to move on. So I am currently keeping up with Once Upon a Time, Castle, Hart of Dixie, Scandal, Elementary and Beauty and the Beast. And Pretty Little Liars, which remains, quite frankly, my favorite thing. I have no plans to pick up anything new at the moment, though I watched the first two episodes of both New Girl and Underemployed this week. I'm just not committing to either of them yet.

Nov. 11th, 2012 10:28 pm (UTC)
Which comedies did you try and drop?

I've never watched The Good Wife, Hart of Dixie, Scandal or Pretty Little Liars. Probably because of what I said to myr_soleil about needing that secret identity component, ha! Although, does PLL have it? If so, maybe I should check it out. :D

I love New Girl. It really hits its stride about halfway through S1, if you have the stamina. I'd never heard of Underemployed until you mentioned it. Is it an MTV show?

Nov. 11th, 2012 10:55 pm (UTC)
I didn't try any new comedies--I just dropped some that I'd been watching for a while. I quit Parks because I was always mostly in it for Ann and she never got anything to do; I quit Modern Family because, although I really enjoyed all the women in it, I was never fully positive about it; and I quit Happy Endings because I was no longer relating to Jane and I'd been feeling for a while that the characters' traits were being inflated for the sake of the plot/humor, which I'm just not into.

I'd say Scandal has a secret identity component--Quinn is not Quinn, and Olivia is involved in some kind of conspiracy. As for Pretty Little Liars, it definitely FEELS secret identity-y, and not just in that the villain is anonymous and therefore anyone the girls are in contact with could plausibly be their torturer. The girls do so much illicit detectiving and go through so much together that they can't tell anyone about. But I'm not sure there's any actual secret identity stuff in it. Again, aside from the villain. And the dead girl's brunette alter ego. And that horrible Nate storyline which was so horrible I cannot in good conscience sell it to you as an enticement. But pretty much everyone is hiding something.

Yes, Underemployed is an MTV show. It hits my embarrassment squick quite a bit, but I am so very taken with Sophia. She's the reason I started watching (I saw a gifset of her telling her friends she was into a 'her,' not a 'him') and she is incredibly relatable (she uses the exact same pen I use! and my favored type of Moleskine!). The main thing it has going for it is how diverse it is--the ensemble is five characters, out of which three are female, and (a different) three are PoC. It's not super original otherwise. But Sophia ♥.

Oh, then may I try to interest you in Ben and Kate? The characters are filling out nicely, and so far they are avoiding stereotypes. All three of the ladies are faboo (that includes the adorable Maggie Elizabeth Jones), one of them is canon bisexual, though it was talked about as having been in the past, it was presented in a way that makes it seem she still is. It's early in the show's run, but I adore it. :)

Oo, okay, I am now adding Scandal and PLL to my possible marathon list for summer. ♥ I'll also look into Underemployed!

I've heard a lot of good things about Ben and Kate, and I seem to stop every time I come across gifsets of Kate and/or the character Lucy Punch plays, so I may give it a go some time soon.

Well, I still have this icon. I guess it's over. *sniffles* Poor Rick and his small (really small)group of survivors. Did you hear what happened off camera? *wibbles*

I'm loving Arrow too. Wasn't expecting that at all. It's all because of the casting. Nice job with that.

TBBT and OUAT, awesome season as usual.

B&BT, still watching. I kinda like it, sort of. The rest of my favorites, you know about.

And with my trilogy of stories pushing 200,000 words, *yikes* I think it will end! *don't quote me*

I'm not sure I did hear... I know T and Laurie died, I thought Carol was still okay? Do you mean someone else?

I like B&TB more every episode. I especially like it when Kat goes all ninja on perps. XD

I was referring to Lori and what happened after the baby was delivered. I won't tell you about it (unless you want me to), but I'm sure it's online somewhere. I can send you a pm..

The last episode of B&TB ws good. It was rather touching, It reminded me of the earlier series. Wow, that last shot of him on top of the Brooklyn Bridge! How did he get up there?

Kat's ninja moves? Every episode? Really? Ok, we get it. She can kick ass, with her tiny self! Judge me by size do you? *giggles* I had a feeling this would happen, that he wouldn't show up, but blackouts? Not good.

Well, make that 600,000 in less than three! I can't believe that!! OMG! But it's true..!! :D

Wow, what a schedule! I wouldn't even know how to watch that many shows over the course of the week. It's hard juggling both TV and film watching, which I vainly try to do.

In terms of drama, I'm keeping up with Homeland and The Walking Dead (hopefully you ended up hearing about the major events that have occurred recently!) atm. I've heard about Dexter being good this season, but have been out of it for the past two seasons after hearing they weren't all that good--would it really be worth my time to? I'm also curious about Elementary, being a big fan of Sherlock. Would also like to catch up on Boardwalk Empire as well. I kind of dropped out of Revenge halfway through last season and didn't continue with Once Upon a Time--it's just not my cup of tea. I blame Breaking Bad for decreasing my tolerance for 'lighter' TV fare. If the show doesn't *really* compel me in some way I'll end up dropping it :P

Comedy wise I liked what I saw of DTTBIA23 and want to get into that again. I've also meant to catch up with 30 Rock, and of course, Community, when the Neeb decide to put it back on next year. I'm more keen on comedies like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Louie rather than a lot of the network stuff. I'm curious about The Mindy Project and might give that a go.

I'm a bit funny in that I prefer to binge shows rather than get them in a trickle, which suits in a way, being overseas and, at times, woefully behind the US!

Nov. 15th, 2012 09:03 pm (UTC)
I have told a couple people that Dexter is easy to jump into without seeing S5 or S6. I would do it!

I like Elementary, but it isn't *compelling* like Breaking Bad, so, eh?

I tend to watch single-cam comedies that are light on embarrassment and awkwardness humor, so I'm not sure what to recommend. Have you tried Wilfred (the US version, apparently quite different, and Elijah Wood, yum)? It's Always Sunny? If you like Curb and Louie, you might like those.
hungryhippo11
Nov. 17th, 2012 10:14 am (UTC)
Cool! I'll add it to my to-watch list. LOL, I don't imagine Elementary would be nearly as compelling as Br Ba. I'm not even sure it compares to Sherlock, which I just adore.

I've heard of Wilfred (saw the original series actually) and I'm intrigued by the US version, and also heard of It's Always Sunny--both are definitely on my to-watch list :)

I never thought I'd see someone's TV Watch List look as long as mine. Here's how we match up:

- Once Upon a Time
- How I Met Your Mother
- The New Girl
- The Mindy Project
- Raising Hope
- The Middle
- Modern Family
- Arrow
- Suburgatory
- The Big Bang Theory
- Up All Night
- Parks & Recreation
- Community (when it comes back)

This reminds me that I should do a TV Update post, too. I've been meaning to jot down my thoughts for awhile.

Oh yeah, my list is usually that long. And if I include shows I randomly watch on DVR or Netflix (or even include shows like Key&Peele, South Park, Daily Show, and Colbert Report, etc), I think my list may be longer? Could be, but not sure.

Anyway... my list is now up... your post inspired me!
