Bookworm meme

I know I just did a meme, but this one was too hard to resist...

Found browsing the stacks of slynn6776

BOOKWORM:
1. Grab the nearest book
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest."

So I don't really wish I had the wings of an angel, but sometimes I wish I had the sweet voice of a thrush.
And then if I sang an Indian Love Lyric why thousands of beautiful beauties would harken and quiver and blush.
And it would be a treat to hear my rendition of Sweet Alice Ben Bolt.

-- "It's Snug to Be Smug" from Selected Poems of Ogden Nash: I Wouldn't Have Missed It

My husband left his book on my desk yesterday, don't know why. I love Ogden Nash, but that isn't my usual reading material! (But if he hadn't, the other closest book would have been the Bible!) Most of my reading material is scattered around elsewhere.

Okay, I think the Bible would have shocked me! *gg* Or did you read often in the book of books?
The other book sounds good. I don't know if that's translate in german (I don't think so), but it seems interesting.

Well, I read the Bible quite a bit, although lately, mostly at church. :)

The other book is a book of poetry. Ogden Nash had a flair for mixing up words in silly and profound ways.

Um, really randomly, I LOVE Ogden Nash. I think his was the first book of poetry I ever read. He had a poem about a Llama that I still crack up at.

He's really great reading, isn't he? His way of putting words together is just awe-inspiring.

Um... can I be ubber-nerdy and admit that I've never heard of Ogden Nash?

Considering I hadn't heard of him until after college, I am not surprised. I first heard his poetry in relationship with Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals. He has some FUNNY little poems about each animal. See the entry below this for a quote from Michelle of something else of his!

May I boil in oil
And fry in Crisco
If I ever call
San Francisco 'Frisco.'

Gotta love Ogden Nash. : )

Still, I would love to know what words were on that page! Hee.

Thanks for the Nash quote! Ha! I'd have to be boiled in oil, it looks like. I love going to Frisco.

Oooh, far too many to list! They're all e-words, though, if that's any compensation.

Me too! 'Cept, I really would burn in oil if I called San Fran "Frisco!" Hehe. ; )

Whoa
Ok, the nearest book to me was a children's version of Hamlet featuring pretty pictures. Why you may ask? I have no idea... I got it out from the library a few weeks ago because I'm studying Hamlet in school.

Anyway... there is no page 123 because it's only about 20 pages long... so I picked a random page instead. :)

"He asked, too, if the actors might insert some special lines that he would write for them. After the players agreed and left to ready their show, Hamlet found himself in a state of despair. The passion with which the actor deliverded his speech, the tears that sprung to the man's eyes, were like a spur to Hamlet's soul."

Interting right? :) Oh- I do have news for you. Last week I started watching Heroes... and I'M HOOKED!! Good lord I watched all the recent episodes online and I cannot WAIT for the next one. The show is wicked awesome! I don't know anybody else who likes it so I decided I had to tell you. lol. :)

I must go to bed, I have an 8:30 class in the morning. Bleh. Good night. :)

Re: Whoa
Another Heroes fan! That makes two people I've addicted on the show. It IS seriously awesome, right? But we're not alone. At least 7-8 of my f-list here is just as addicted. *hugs*

Good luck in class!
