Legend of the Seeker love...

Okay, so I clearly do not have enough fandoms, right? [/sarcasm] I had read the first 5-6 books of the Sword of Truth series a decade ago, and really liked them (though I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea). I finally gave in to interest and pressure and started watching this series. We don't have a local affiliate that carries it, so I hadn't gotten around to watching it.

Much to my surprise, the entire series (up to ep 17 -- there are 5 more to go) is available on Hulu. I started watching and... well... I didn't think it was possible to make Richard and Kahlan's relationship hotter than in the books, but apparently it is. :D

The pilot is below (90 minutes long) and sets up the story. I found it okay, but it really picks up after the first 4-5 episodes.

US only:

Who else (other than januaried and creativeelf) is into this show?

http://www.legendoftheseeker.com/ has ALL of the episodes online for free, and this is the official site, so it's legal. (I'm always surprised at how few people seem to know about this!)

That's where I got the original embed... Hulu runs the videos hosted there. :(

Oh, I didn't realize that. No wonder! *le sigh*

I've heard so many good things about this show!!! And the books! I just need more hours in the day...that would solve so many of my problems LOL. Thanks for such a review...LOTS is still on my list of shows I need to watch.

LOL, don't I know it!

But I managed to blast through them all in about a week, so it IS possible, even with working and being a mom. Though how clean is my house now? *whistles*

That's amazing. I just managed to watch the Doctor Who Special the other night LOL. *sigh* So much to watch, so little time - but glad to hear there's another person pimping this show :)

I've read all but the last few books.

About the show... I don't know, maybe I should give it another shot. I caught a part of an episode on tv and wasn't too impressed.

There have been some blah eps, for sure. I think the episode that made me say "AWESOME" first was "Denna" (the first with the Mord-Sith). The actress is really great in the part, and I remember that being one of my favorite bits.

So give it another try if you can. :)
Apr. 21st, 2009 11:44 pm (UTC)

So, what's your favorite? I'm still in love with the uber-hot Denna. And Kahlan, when she dresses up like Denna. :D Not to mention the amazing fighting scenes and the great world-building.

Denna is SUPER AWESOME, and the actress is NAILING that part, OMG. It was the episode "Denna" that first filled me with "OMG, this is SO AWESOME"!

What I'm really loving is that the show is clearly the same world, but quite a bit of the plot is different. Like the Boxes of Orden thing, and how it was done in the show? That is NOT what I remember. But eh, I haven't read it in ages. Maybe I'm wrong?

The three leads are so good, too. I'm very emotionally invested in all of them. ♥

Did you get to "Revenant"? Because that was some epic-level fanservice.
Apr. 23rd, 2009 09:59 am (UTC)
OMG, yes! That episode pretty much dominated me. :D

I've actually watched everything up to 17, and am impatiently awaiting 18 this weekend. It turns out that WGN shows it, and we get that channel on our cable package. Who knew?

I do have a question for the writers, though. SPOILER:

Spoiler! Select by mouse to read:
How the heck are they going to deal with the Confessing that happens at the end of Book 1? They've gone out of their way to show that no one is immune to Kahlan's power except Rahl (because of the potion) and Richard's sister.

It's been a LONG time since I read the books, but wasn't the point that Richard avoids the Confession because a) he loves her purely, and b) he's magically gifted? The Seeker and Confessor who took over Richard and Kahlan's bodies in "Revenant" were in love and the Seeker had magic, right? So what's the diff?

Anyway, they changed the whole bit with the boxes of Orden, too, so maybe they're not going to do the same ending. *shrugs*

What do you think?
Apr. 23rd, 2009 10:06 pm (UTC)
Maybe the Revenant!Wizard told the Revenant!Seeker/Confessor about that clause, because I remember in the book Zedd said that knowing about it meant it wouldn't work.
Apr. 23rd, 2009 10:48 pm (UTC)
Hmm, that's a good theory! I only vaguely remember that bit. Looks like I'm going to have to dig out my copy of the book again and see. :)

I was kind of curious about LOTS. :)

The story intrigued me, and some of the people involved with it were involved with Xena:Warrior Princess, another of my favorite series. And I've heard that Richard/Kahlan is hot! ;)

So should I be sure to give this series a shot when I have time? :)
Apr. 30th, 2009 09:41 am (UTC)
I think you should give it a shot! It's much more serious in tone than Xena was (so I've heard), but there are bits of humor here and there.

And the series is only loosely based on the books, so knowing them is not necessary.

I'm loving it! :)
May. 1st, 2009 12:02 am (UTC)
It looked like it was a bit more dark. :)

I'll have to give it a try then! Soon as I catch up on my abundance of other current series, I'll go online and watch a few. :)
Jul. 17th, 2009 04:53 pm (UTC)
Somehow, one of the cable channels I have access to is now showing this series -- I'm totally TiVo'ing, of course. And enjoying it very much, too! :)

Eric seems to enjoy it as well - and we're both watching Merlin, too...imagine that. lol!
Jul. 17th, 2009 05:18 pm (UTC)
Oh, yay! It's really a fun show. I'm glad you gave it a try. ♥
